At Scenic Community Credit Union, we don’t just talk about community, we live it. That’s why this May, we’re partnering with the Chattanooga Area Food Bank to support families across Southeast Tennessee and Northwest Georgia facing food insecurity.

Why This Matters Now

Food prices are rising, and federal food programs that once helped families put meals on the table are being paused or cut altogether. That’s left a big gap—and neighbors across our hometown are feeling it.

According to Melissa Blevins, President & CEO of the Chattanooga Area Food Bank, their operations may shrink by up to 20% if support doesn’t step in to fill the gap.

“We’re talking about families right here in our community—nearly 200,000 of our neighbors—who are facing food insecurity. The innocence of our children shouldn’t be lost over the rumbling of an empty stomach.”

Credit Unions in Action

This campaign is more than just food—it’s a reflection of who we are as a credit union. We were founded on the principle of people helping people. As a not-for-profit financial cooperative, we pour more of our earnings back into efforts that uplift our members and our community.

Whether we’re helping someone buy their first car or making sure a child doesn’t go to bed hungry, we show up where it matters.

Don’t Tax My Credit Union: Why It Matters

Supporting our community like this is only possible because credit unions are tax-exempt. Unlike big banks that generate profits for shareholders, we reinvest our resources back into you, our members, and into causes like the Chattanooga Area Food Bank.

But right now, some in Washington want to change that. Taxing credit unions would mean less support for food drives, member programs, and financial services designed for working families. It would hit our community hard.
